Here it goes
I would just like say that I have never taken myself too seriously (pretentious, right?), but I am going to make an effort. Personally, I view this as an outlet for my random outbursts of monologue than never get to see the light of day. As a 22-year-old, I have some unique experiences and view that I think are worth sharing. That being said, here’s a little about me.
Yes, this is the Titanic before the maiden, and only voyage. Will our fate reach the same as this great marvel of humanity? Only time will tell.
My full name is Zachary Mason Zippe, a name given to me in spite of a gender confusion at my birth. Zoey Michelle was the name picked out for me until I was born and my father said the iconic line,
“She has a penis!”
She sure did, and she wasn’t a she at all, but rather a he (my preferred pronouns are he/him). If I ever did find out I was a woman trapped in a man’s body I’d have a pretty good idea of when the confusion happened. Not many people can say that.
I grew up in the small town of Mediapolis, Iowa. It is a farm community located in southeast Iowa just north of the mighty Mississippi River. A wrestling school, for sure, but that family career ended with my older brother. I played a lot of sports, and to this day I can thank that for molding my as I was growing up.
My senior year I joined the Iowa Army National Guard, and I shipped off to basic following my senior summer of baseball (sensing a sports trend). The Army quickly made me a Soldier, and here is where I will make a brief disclaimer.
“My personal views do not in any way reflect that of the United States Army or United States of America,” Zachary Mason Zippe. “All of my ideas are unique only to me, and they are subject to change over time. I mean no defamation to the country I serve, and I honor and respect the United States of America.”
Now that that has formally been said, I feel more comfortable moving forward. In fact, as I write this, I am currently deployed. It’s amazing how much free time you accumulate when you’re away from home for long periods of time. I essentially paused my life as soon as the pandemic hit. I was called on COVID orders in March 2020, and I have been fully employed by Uncle Sam ever since.
Here, in this whole other country, I left my life as a Political Science Major behind. At the University of Northern Iowa, I chose to begin my academic career with no clear direction. I would have been a senior if it weren’t for the deployment, but life happens and now I plan to graduate in 2022 (damn).
I have no careers lined up for the future, but I am extremely interested in International Relations. From high school it has always fascinated me, and I have a strong passion for the subject. Although, I don’t let that limit me in my pursuit of knowledge. There are an array of topics that I am interested in, just like every other person ever. From music to economics, that’s sort of my sub-purview.
Let’s wrap this thing up, how’s that sound?
My next publish; Universal Basic Income: Could it save rural America?
I don’t know how this will go, but I am excited to see it grow (rhyme unintentional, I promise;) As Captain Nemo would assure us, MOBILIS IN MOBILI.
